Microbial dynamics in rearing trials of Hermetia illucens larvae fed coffee silverskin and microalgae

چکیده
In the present study, Hermetia illucens larvae were reared on a main rearing substrate composed of coffee roasting byproduct (coffee silverskin, Cs) enriched with microalgae (Schizochytrium limacinum or Isochrysis galbana) at various substitution levels. The microbial diversity substrates, larvae, and frass (excrement from mixed residue) studied by combination culturing growth media metataxonomic analysis (Illumina sequencing). High counts total mesophilic aerobes, bacterial spores, presumptive lactic acid bacteria, coagulase-positive cocci, eumycetes detected. Enterobacteriaceae low in diets, whereas higher this family observed frass. microbiota substrates was characterized presence including genera Lactobacillus, Leuconostoc Weissella. H. fed Cs dominance Paenibacillus. diets containing I. galbana Enterococcus, Lysinibacillus, Morganella, Paenibacillus, depending algae inclusion level, while S. high relative abundances Brevundimonas, Paracoccus, level. Brevundimonas Alcaligenes dominated galbana; predominance also Schyzochitrium-enriched diets. Based results an effect nutrient bioactive substances (e.g. polysaccharides, high-unsaturated fatty acids, taurine, carotenoids) abundance some taxa detected may be hypothesized, thus opening new intriguing perspectives for control entomopathogenic species foodborne human pathogens potentially occurring edible insects. Further studies are needed to support hypothesis. Finally, information insect obtained.

Modulation of nutrient composition of black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) larvae by feeding seaweed-enriched media
Black soldier fly (Hermetia illucens) larvae are a promising source of protein and lipid for animal feeds. The nutritional composition of the BSF larvae depend partly on the composition of the feeding medium. The BSF lipid profile in part mimics the feeding media lipid profile, and micronutrients, like minerals and vitamins, can readily accumulate in black soldier fly larvae. However, investiga...
متن کاملInfluence of resources on Hermetia illucens (Diptera: Stratiomyidae) larval development.
Arthropod development can be used to determine the time of colonization of human remains to infer a minimum postmortem interval. The black soldier fly, Hermetia illucens L. (Diptera. Stratiomyidae) is native to North America and is unique in that its larvae can consume a wide range of decomposing organic material, including carrion. Larvae development was observed on six resources: control poul...
متن کاملEffects of Substitution of Fish Meal with Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia illucens) Larvae Meal, in Yellow Catfish
An 8-week feeding trial was conducted to evaluate effects of replacing fish meal (FM) with black soldier fly larvae meal (BSF) on growth performance, feed utilization, and plasma parameters, for juvenile yellow catfish, Pelteobagrus fulvidraco. Six isonitrogenous and isolipidic diets were prepared substituting the FM protein with BSF protein in the following amounts: 0 (control group), 10% (BSF...
متن کاملIntra-Puparial Development of the Black Soldier-fly, Hermetia illucens
The intra-puparial development of the black soldier-fly, Hermetia illucens (L.) (Diptera: Stratiomyidae), was studied based on 125 pupae under controlled conditions in laboratory. The 6(th) instar larvae were reared until they stopped feeding, and the prepupae were separated according to the reduction in larval length and degree of pigmentation and sclerotization of the cuticle. The pupal stage...

A chemical and microbiological characterization on Hermetia illucens larvae was carried out as well as an inactivation study of natural contaminating microorganisms and inoculated E. coli O157:H7 in black soldier larvae by using High Hydrostatic Pressure (250 to 400 MPa, for 1.5 to 15 min). Hermetia illucens was mainly composed of proteins (46.49%, d.m.) followed by fat (37.88%, d.m.). Larvae h...
